We collected many specimens of WATASE's shrew, Crocidura watasei KURODA, 1924 from Amami, Kikai, Tokunoshima, Okierabu and Yoron Islands by hand-made live traps. 60(W)×180(L)×50(H) mm in size. Among them, the species has not been hitherto recorded from Kikai Island, but in December of 1989 we collected five specimens of this species from sugar-cane farm in this island. As the results of comparison among six island populations of Crocidura, it became clear that these populations belong to the same taxon, C. watasei. We collected WATASE's shrew from barren land, bank and sugar-cane farm, but could not obtain them in glass land in a mountain and broadleaf forest. The species seems to be most common in sugarcane farm.
