Experiment was made on temperature dependence of the crystal structure of bismuth telluride, which has recently been investigated as a thermoelectric energy conversion material as well as an electronic cooling material. The crystal lattice parameters estimated from the powder X-ray diffraction profiles increasedmonotonously at low temperatures below 350 °C, while they abruptly changed and some other profiles than those of the telluride appeared at 400°C. The result of this experiment suggested that the crystal lattice is normally expanded at low temperatures below 350°C, while it is abruptly changed by dissociation andsublimation of the elements and some other substances such as oxides are composed at 400°C.
