We measured the intraarticular pressure in 10 knees during knee arthroscopic surgery. The average intraarticular pressure found in cases with bleeding was 53.7mmHg. When we studied the relationship between the Knee flexion angle and intraarticular pressure, we found that the minimum intrrarticular pressure occurred at 30° of knee flexion in all cases.

We recognized 11 patients (9 males, 2 females) diagnosed as having Ostechondritis dissecans of the knee treated surgically from 4 months to 4 years and 2 months. Their ages ranged from 12 to 27 years old (average 16.6 years), and the sites of their lesion were medial femoral condyle 8 cases, lateral femoral condyle (patello-femoral joint) 2 cases, and patella lcase. Predisposing sports activities were recognized in 8 cases such as baseball soccer etc. We performed as surgical treatments, bone peg graft for 8 cases (included arthrosopic treatment for 5 cases), removal of loose bodies for 3 cases. We utilized MR imaging as one method of postoperative evaluation for bone peg grafted cases.

Accelerometric measurement of gait ananlysis is a simple, inexpensive and effective way to evaluate gait and was first introduced by Liberson and colleagues. Smidt applied accelerometry to the normal and abnormal patterns of gait. Ogata used accelerometry to quantitatively vevaluate the lateral thrust of the knee and investigated the dynamic effects of a wedged insole on the thrust of OA knees.In the present study, we used an accelerometer, strain gauge and goniometer to inveshgate the effects of accelerometry on heel strike in gait analysis. The acceleration placed on the calcaneal region on heel strike appeared faster than any other measurement. Our results suggest that an accelerometer placed on the calcaneal region provides the most useful information on the exact moment when the heel strikes the ground.
