Length patterns of the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) were measured with magnetic resonance imaging of five normal human knees. All were male right knees. The average age was 25.6 years. The sagittal view showed the PCL clearly as a low signal intensity in T1 weighted imaging. We evaluated the changes in length during knee flexion from 0 to 120 degree (0, 30, 60, 90, 120 degrees). The maximum length of the PCL was at the 60 degree flexion and its minimun length at 0 and 120 degrees. This suggested that 0 degree flexion of the knee joint avoided the hyper tensile stress of the PCL and that it was a suitable position for the treatments of PCL injuries.

書評(Book Review)本稿は、晴山一穂・佐伯祐二・榊原秀訓・石村修・阿部浩己・清水敏著『欧米諸国の「公務員の政治活動の自由」』の書評である。著者らの研究によると、英米独仏の公務員は原則として、勤務時間外においては政治活動は制限されていない。これに対して、日本の公務員は、一律にその政治活動の大半が厳しい制限を受けている。著者らは、この点において、日本の公務員の政治活動の自由は不当な制限を受けていると主張している。また、こうした状況を放置している立法府や前例踏襲主義の司法に対しても厳しい批判の目を注いでいる。This article is a book review of "the freedom of the political activity of the public employee of American and European countries"written by Kazuho Hareyama, Yuji Saeki, Hidenori Sakakibara, Osamu Ishimura, Koki Abe, Satoshi Shimizu . According to the study of authors, as for the public employee of the Britain, the United States, Germany and France, the political activity is not limited as a general rule when I put it outside working hours. In contrast, the Japanese public employee is subject to the limit that most of the political activities are severe uniformly. In this respect, authors insist that the freedom of the political activity of the Japanese public employee is subject to an unfair limit. In addition, I pour eyes of severe criticism for the legislature and the judiciary of the principle of precedent inheritance ignoring such situation.

Accelerometric measurement of gait ananlysis is a simple, inexpensive and effective way to evaluate gait and was first introduced by Liberson and colleagues. Smidt applied accelerometry to the normal and abnormal patterns of gait. Ogata used accelerometry to quantitatively vevaluate the lateral thrust of the knee and investigated the dynamic effects of a wedged insole on the thrust of OA knees.In the present study, we used an accelerometer, strain gauge and goniometer to inveshgate the effects of accelerometry on heel strike in gait analysis. The acceleration placed on the calcaneal region on heel strike appeared faster than any other measurement. Our results suggest that an accelerometer placed on the calcaneal region provides the most useful information on the exact moment when the heel strikes the ground.
