In order to study the calibrating method and the error after calibration for a measuring system, the method to determine the dimensional measuring error of a component part through experimentation was discussed. The procedures of this method followed the guidelines described in JIS Z9090, measurement-General rules for calibration system, a standard established based on the concepts of quality engineering. The calibration was conducted by such new concepts. Up to present, the determination of measurement error has been ambiguous. But from this study, it was concluded that error can be rationally determined by one of the three practical cases of picking up the sources of error. lt is also stated in this paper that quality engineering approaches can be applied to determine the expanded uncertainty which is included in ISO Guide of the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement.

In the era of diversified information, the demand of electronic document processing is becoming stronger and stronger. Today, it is indispensable to use electronics for data base processing. The methods transforming printed documents into electronic codes have been commercialized, however, technologies to recognize hand writing have not been well developed yet. In this paper, the improvement of hand writing recognition, which is to recognize the pattern of multi-dimensional information, was studied using MTS (Mahalanobis-Taguchi System). It has been confirmed the application of MTS is effective for multi-dimensional information. This study aimed to apply the method to a new field of multi-dimensional information processing.

Earthquake prediction by the MT-system was proposed by Genichi Taguchi in 1995. Studies started in the Yano laboratory at Tokyo Denki University in 2004 demonstrated that earthquake prediction was possible to some extent, but there was considerable prediction error. A new study was started in line with new developments in the MT-system. Data collection was started in Tsukuba district. This paper gives a periodic analysis of seismic waveforms in the Tsukuba district and obtains the distances of ground vibrations by using the RT method, with the variance of the period as an attribute. The possibility of prediction by a further two-tail T method is shown, based on the variation of the distance over time. The estimated S/N ratio was -0.176 db and the sensitivity was 0.016 db. The prediction error was ±10% at a vibration velocity of 20μm/s.
