In this paper, the optimization on the generic function of a lipstick manufacturing process is discussed. Traditionally, the quality of lipsticks is measured by objective quality characteristics such as appearance. Sensory tests, which are not recommended in quality engineering, had been used to evaluate such quality characteristics. lt is because these quality characteristics are not stable due to the changes of environ mental conditions such as between lot variability or seasonal variation. When sucs quality problems occur, manufacturing conditions were adjusted from time to time,which is known as fire fighting or "mole beating" in Japanese. Among those objective quality characteristics, the ones such as scratches, color uniformity or breaking during usage are manu facturing related quality. As the generic function, the stress/strain relationship was investigated and the results showed that the relationship has satisfied the Hookes Law with a good improvement.

Due to the automation that accompanies technological progress and the development of substitute materials, traditional techniques that have been handed down orally or preserved by the apprentice system are now falling into disuse. In particular, many techniques that depend on craftsmen's skills and experience and many traditional techniques that have been replaced by other techniques due to high cost seem to be on the way out. Quality engineering methods were used to recreate clay plastered TATAKI floors, which have been used in Japan since before the Edo Period but are vanishing because of the development of newer construction materials and simplification of construction methods.

It is important to develop a measurement technology that can be used to quantify the comfortability of wearing. Up to now however, the most effective way of evaluating comfortability is still the sensory tests conducted by human being . ln this paper, the discriminating ability of panels, which is the sensor in sensory evaluation, was studied. An experiment was conducted to investigate the ability of discriminating the difference in jackets patterns. lt was found from the experiment that the rate of panel members having a high discriminating ability was only 6 percent, which is less than forecasted. lt was also found that the threshold value of discrimination was about 10 mm. SIN ratio. applied in measurement technology was used as an index for discriminating ability, and we concluded that its use was valid and effective.

Earthquake prediction by the MT-system was proposed by Genichi Taguchi in 1995. Studies started in the Yano laboratory at Tokyo Denki University in 2004 demonstrated that earthquake prediction was possible to some extent, but there was considerable prediction error. A new study was started in line with new developments in the MT-system. Data collection was started in Tsukuba district. This paper gives a periodic analysis of seismic waveforms in the Tsukuba district and obtains the distances of ground vibrations by using the RT method, with the variance of the period as an attribute. The possibility of prediction by a further two-tail T method is shown, based on the variation of the distance over time. The estimated S/N ratio was -0.176 db and the sensitivity was 0.016 db. The prediction error was ±10% at a vibration velocity of 20μm/s.
