This study aims to clarify incentives and disincentives, as recognized by professionals who provide consultation and support for persons with disabilities, in inter-professional work. The study looks at professionals' handling of difficult cases and discusses ideal approaches to inter-professional work for strengthening professionals' expertise. Through interviews, the following incentives were identified:(1)"sense of responsibility" and "way of networking" at an individual level,(2)"philosophy sharing," "information shar- ing," "consensus building," and "role clarification" at a team level, and(3)"collaboration with related governmental/private organizations" at an organizational level. The disincentives, which professionals identified as obstacles preventing the continuation of the supportive relationship, include:(1)"different perceptions of situations" in their relationship with social service users,(2)"insufficient communication/information," "low social status of the profes- sions," and "lack of skill as a professional" in their relationship with other professionals in several different fields, and(3)"issues of organizational structure" and "issues arising from the legal system's boundaries" in their relationship with governmental/private organizations. To strengthen expertise of professionals, approaches based on incentives in inter-professional work are needed.
