To study about the clothing habits of Japanese people in EDO period, it is a important theme to consider about their strong taste for imported textiles and the process of utilizing them. TOROMEN was a kind of well-known textile and it was imported continuously since MUROMACHI to the end of EDO period. As a woolen textile, it was dealt with relatively in lower price, but a plenty of its imitation was woven using cotton. In EDO period, TOROMEN was ranked as the second grade of textiles next to RASHA and RASEITA, and it was widely used habitualy and also its imitations were used by the common people. Thus, the case of TOROMEN seems to be a typical example of the accepting process for imported materials in our country.
