At present, only one Stertinius species, S. kumadai Logunov, Ikeda & Ono 1997, is known from Japan. In this paper, a new species, S. ryukyuensis sp. nov., is described and compared with S. kumadai, which is redescribed. Despite similarities in general appearance, the two species can be separated based on the morphology of retrolateral tibial apophysis and male cheliceral teeth, as well as the position of large spermathecal chamber.

A thomisid species, Lycopus longissimus Tang & Li 2010, is newly recorded in Japan. The genus Lycopus is also new to Japan, and L. longissimus is the only Japanese species at present.

A phrurolithid spider species, Phrurolithus splendidus Song & Zheng 1992, is newly recorded from Japan. This species resembles P. pennatus, but can be distinguished from the latter by male tibial apophysis with thin finger-shaped apex, and spermathecae located behind openings.

We report the occurrence of a gynandromorph of the funnel-web spider Allagelena opulenta collected by a Malaise trap set in a Japanese cedar plantation on Mt. Aikodake, Yakushima Island, Japan. This specimen presents a transverse gynandry, with the anterior half of the body male and the posterior one female. The epigyne is abnormally developed, and the shape of the epigynal opening is deformed compared to that in normal females. This is the first case of gynandromorphy observed in this genus.

A new salticid species of the genus Chinattus is described as Chinattus falco sp. nov. For the present, this species is known from only Amami-Oshima Island, Japan. The new species can be distinguished from other congeners by the male palp with not-hooked retrolateral tibial apophysis and epigyne with slender scape.

Japanese salticid species of the genus Tasa and a part of the genus Pseudicius are taxonomically revised by morphological investigation and molecular analysis using partial sequencing data of mt-DNA COI gene. As a result, the female of Pseudicius koreanus Wesolowska 1981 and the male of Tasa nipponica Bohdanowicz & Prószynski 1987 are identified as the same species. Therefore, T. nipponica is newly synonymized with P. koreanus, and P. koreanus is transferred to the genus Tasa, due to its male genital morphology. The male of P. koreanus sensu Bohdanowicz & Prószynski (1987) is identified as the male of Pseudicius tokaraensis (Bohdanowicz & Prószynski 1987). Incidentally, P. okinawaensis Prószynski 1992 is newly synonymized with P. tokaraensis. Additionally, Pseudicius kimjoopili (Kim 1995) comb. nov. is newly recorded from Japan. The male of this species is described for the first time. This species is transferred from the genus Helicius. After these taxonomic revisions, Japanese Pseudicius species are following three for the present: P. kimjoopili, P. tokaraensis and P. vulpes. These three can be easily distinguished from each other by their general appearances or genital morphologies.

A new salticid species is described from Japan under the name of Evarcha selenaria. Males of the species are easily distinguishable from those of other Evarcha species by their genital morphologies. Females are barely distinguishable by interior genital morphologies.
