Ever since Theodor W. Adorno radically attacked popular music, popular music researchers have criticized Adorno and attempted to express their own positions. However, just because Adorno attacked popular music, it does not mean he was unable to observe popular music phenomena. Additionally, his observation of popular music phenomena is not necessarily out of date. In this paper, I regard Adorno as an Anti-Nori (Groove) theorist. By discussing Adornoʼs theory of popular music, I would like to derive academic points on Nori (Groove) in contemporary society. This paper is part of a critical review of prior research on “Nori (Groove) and Social Change”.
