What kind of rationality did Leibniz esteem on the level of sensation? In this essay, I will try to answer this question, from the aspect of his theory of sensation, by focusing on his idea of image and abstraction. In fact, Leibniz did not regard the role of sense perception merely as an occasion of having knowledges, for he says: “it‟s by an admirable economy of the nature that we cannot have abstract thoughts which do not require any sensible things”. It means we should see behind his theory of sensation an insight into the harmony between experience and reason.
