The purpose of this study was to identify the problems, i.e., distortions and misunderstandings of the reference materials cited in Atsushi Nakazawa’s author titled “Changes of Extracurricular Sports Activities from the Postwar to the Present: Why are Sports Activities Connected with School Education” by focusing on it’s the procedures of hypothesis setting. To this end, I analyzed Nakazawa’s process of setting hypothetical viewpoints in this book, specifically those such as:(1)sports activities and school education have got connected after the war(; 2)“children’s autonomy” plays a role in connecting sports(games)and extracurricular sports activities with school education;(3)a paradox exists on the issue of “children’s autonomy”. Then, I disclosed the fact that Nakazawa’s distortions and misunderstandings of the reference materials actually resulted in these viewpoints.
