Relation between beach erosion and the development of coastal forest was investigated by comparing past aerial photographs, taking the Heisa-ura coast in Chiba Prefecture as the example. Sand dune has been well developed at this coast due to the strong wind-blown sand in winter in the past. In order to prevent the damage due to wind-blown sand, coastal forest has been extensively planted. However, excess development of coastal forest in recent years as well as the construction of earth dike along the coastal forest caused shoreline recession by the excavation of beach sand to supply the construction materials. Appropriate land management isrequired between the coastal forest area and the shore protection area in order to avoid devastation of natural sandy beach.

A new type of traffic terminal has been constructed at Yokohama bay recently. It is composed of 2-storied house on a floating pontoon and moored by pile-fender system. There are ticket counter and waiting lounge on the first floor and restaurant on the second floor. Since the floating type was applied to the passengers terminal station for the first time in Japan, We examined the relation between comfortability and motion of the terminal. Several interesting results, such as people who are easy to get seasick have tendency to estimate the motion of the structure excessively, are obtained.

At the Nagasu fishing port of Oita Prefecture, the field survey on environmental-impact-assessment was carried out before and after dumping dredged sand into the shallow sea area. As comparing both field survey results, influence on fishing ground environment by dumping dredged sand into the shallow area was examined and evaluated. As a result of measuring the number of species and individuals and the amount of wet-weight of macro benthos in both bottom material, it showed that the condition of macro benthos of bottom material after dumping was almost similar to that before dumping. Therefore, it is considered that the influence of dumping dredged sand into shallow sea area around Nagasu Fishing Port would be temporary and little impact. In addition, planning the time of dumping dredged sand in this area, the consideration of avoiding the time of larva and juvenile of Marbled sole (Pleuronectes yokohamae) and the time of cultivate laver would be required.

Ports and fishing ports in cold regions in Hokkaido freeze during winter. Changes in sea level after ice sheets have adfrozen to port facilities, such as floating structures, quays and breakwaters, create vertical ice loads. Floating structures often suffer damage from sea ice, making it important to consider the influence of the sea ice in the design of such structures in cold regions.In this study, investigations of sea ice conditions were conducted to estimate ice loads, and the distribution of ice thickness and the area range where the ice sheet undergoes flexural failure were clarified.
