The well worm goby, Luciogobius pallidus Regan, 1940 (Perciformes: Gobiidae) collected from Hiwasa-gawa, Kaifu-gawa and Shishikui-gawa rivers running through the southern part of Tokushima Prefecture, Japan. The specimens represent the first records of the species from the rivers that flow into the Pacific Ocean of the prefecture. The specimens collected from the three rivers were found to comprise two types, i.e., Freshwater type and Brackish water type, based on the morphological and ecological traits.

In the Shikoku Mountains, during a study of bats (Murina ussuriensis) with artificial shelters, I once observed a Japanese dormouse (Glirulus japonicus) occupied it in daytime. I also found circumstantial evidence of the dormice using the artificial shelters. One is that stripped plant barks were brought into a small room of the artificial shelter, and another is that the material of the artificial shelter (hemp) was partially untied to fibers. These findings suggest that the artificial shelter has a potential to study wild dormice without using nest boxes.

Two specimens of the Tube-nosed bat Murina hilgendorfi, which was a vulnerable species on Red Data Book of Japan, were collected from Ino Town, Kochi Prefecture on September 2006. Those bats were trapped on adhesive sheets which were set for collecting insects. The environment where the bats were collected was a mature plantation of Hinoki Cypress Chamaecyparis obtusa with poor understory vegetation.
