This paper describes how geography education plays a role in territorial education in consideration of its characteristic of creating space perception. Specifically, we conducted a questionnaire survey on the territorial recognition of university students. As the result, no significant difference is not confirmed in questions of the location of and the basis of territorial rights to the Takeshima and the Senkaku Islands between students studying geography at high school and those not studying. On the other hand, students' answers in the survey show affirmative attitudes toward the enhancement of territorial education. To promote mutual understanding with neighboring countries from now on, it is necessary to establish the social recognition of Japan's position on the issue of islands on the border under the severe international situation.
