It is very important which the special xray equipment and photosensitive materials merely are prepared but also their maximum ability are shown for mammography which is taken photography of breast tissue having a few absorbed difference and requires showing the detail of change to a morbid state.Especia lly, the physical properties of film are influenced on developing conditions, namely, developing temperature, developing time and developer. In this study, the physical properties were investigated by using some developing conditions.In the results, it has been confirmed, which the temperature dependencies on physical properties of films for mammography are different with developing time and developer.Furthermore, it has been confirmed, which it is very important wh en the maximum ability of the films for mammography is required, the suitable developing temperature must be investigated by using the automatic processor of each institution, that is, by using the developing time and developer of each institution.

This technical report describes a 3D dose calculation code which we have developed for proton therapy treatment planning. In order to achieve fast and accurate calculation in inhomogeneous matter like a human body, the code employs the pencil beam algorithm with the infinite-slab-layer approximation. The code handles the given configuration of proton beam, beam modifying devices, and voxel-based structure of a patient and calculates the 3D dose distribution in the patient. The code showed good performance for treatment planning in terms of speed and accuracy in comparison with detailed Monte Carlo calculations.

The image quality of mammogram has improved over the past 2 decades as a result of the development of specially designed mammography unit. For mammography to achieve high sensitivity and specificity, all aspects of the imaging process must be optimized. This paper describes the recent development in breast imaging technologies, including design of the x-ray equipment (traget and filtration materials), detector (screen-film system), and processing used for mammography. The methods for acceptance testing and quality control on mammography have been also reported.

Proton Medical Research Center of Tsukuba University employs a scattering method to obtain approoriate prooriate (almost flat dose distribution of 16cm in diameter on the treatment table) irradiation field for the proton beam therapy. A simple estimation shows that only 10% of protons impinging into the scatterer can reach the irradiation field. Collimators as well as other devices placed along course of the beam port interrupt the rest of protons. As is well known, energetic protons generate neutrons when they interact with matters. Some portions of these strongly penetrating neutrons cause an unexpected whole body irradiation of patients during the proton therapy. In this report, the neutron dose per unit proton target dose is estimated about 0.006 Sv/Gy for a typical treatment planning (the specific fluence and average energy of protons at the surface of the patient are about 1.1 x 109cm-2/Gy and 135 MeV respectively), and a strategy for reducing them is proposed.

In the first few years following the medical use of x rays together with radium, there was almost a complete lack of radiation protection, due to an ignorance of the hazards involved. The history of their development are reviewed.In this paper, we describe the sealed-source lead safe for storage, drawer assembly, lead bed shielding for the protection of radium sources, telecurie unit and occupational exposure of physicians and nurses in radium-loading procedures, especially of radium nurses exposed to fingers, back, stomach, breasts and eyes of radium nurses of the Cancer Institute Hospital, Tokyo.
