Specimens of the genus Amanita collected from Japan and deposited in the herbarium of the Department of Botany, National Science Museum, Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japan (TNS) were studied. Eighteen taxa, including two species new to science and two taxa new to Japan are reported here. Brief notes on a few type specimens of the Amanitae described by T. Hongo are also included in the present accunt. The new species are Amanita orientogemmata and A. oberwinklerana, while the new records are A. manginiana sensu Chiu and A. subjunquillea var. alba. Amanita sphaerobulbosa is treated as a distinct species, independent of A. abrupta.

Full description based on fertile specimens is given to Ramalina hossei VAIN., which has long been overlooked by lichenologists. Variation of secondary products of the species is also discussed.
