The Pacific coast of N.-E. Japan, or the eastern coast of the locality popularly known as the Sanriku district, is well known from historic times as region frequently visited by tunamis. Tabulating all those tunamis that may be regarded as having actually occurred there, wc have 15 cases as follows. It must be remarked that from the number is excluded that which may be regarded as having been caused by wind or other meteorogical agencies, or otherwise was so small as it caused scarcely any disaster at all.
