We tested the inhibitory effects of a mint oil and it’s two volatile components on the growth of eight strains of fungi (i.e. Cladosporium spp., Aureobasidium spp. and Botrytis spp.) using direct contact experiment based on an agar medium dilution method. The minimal inhibitory concentration(MIC) of the oil to four NBRC’s strains (C. cladosporioides NBRC 6348, A. pullulans NBRC 6353,B. cinenerea NBRC 9760 and NBRC 30915) was 0.2-0.3% (v/v) at 25°C. MIC of ℓ-menthol was 0.3-0.5% (w/v) to the eight strains including Cladosporium sp. ANCT-11002, Aureobasidium sp. ANCT-11003, Botrytis spp. ANCT-06001 and ANCT-06022. On the other hand, menthone to 0.5%(v/v) concentration inhibited almost none of the growth of the all strains.

The author once presented a theory about Kenji Miyazawa's poem, "Sapporo-shi (Sapporo City)". He proposed that the stage of this poem is Sapporo (not Hanamaki) : Nish 6-chome, Odori, Sapporo City. He pointed out that this address is the very site of "elm square to commemorate the cultivation". He was recently given an opportunity to describe the reasons or grounds of his theory. These are described in this article.

"The colors of carbon monoxide diffusion flames were quantitatively determined in accordance with the CIE 1931 standard colorimetric system. The chromaticity coordinates (x,y) and spectral distributions of visible radiation emitted from the flames were measured with a spectroradiometer. The differences of the flame colors were examined by plotting the measured (x,y) on a CIE 1931 chromaticity diagram. The experimental results indicated that the flame colors of carbon monoxide diffusion flames were almost uniform and independent of flame height, surrounding air velocity and carbon monoxide purity. The values of the (x,y) were constantly (0.224~0.226,0.224~0.226)."

The Immanuel migration group settled in1891 to Imakane and aimed to establish a Christian village. It is very characteristic that this settlement was done in partnership with two different Christian denominations, namely Anglican and Presbyterian. A leader of the Presbyterian group was Tsunesaburo Amanuma. His descendants, the Amanuma family own some basic documents which were written by him. In these documents the details of the Anglicangroup's migration are described. The existing studies on this group ignored these documents and depended exclusively on indirect historical materials and hearsay. This paper aimed to correct the existing view of the previous studies by the decipherment of these basic documents to reconstruct the historical facts.

The radishes harvested from the farm contain ones that are short-length or with a forked root. They are called as irregular radishes. The irregular radishes loaded into containers must be eliminated in the radish sizing place after harvest. The radish sizing costs momey and loses time. Therefore we have developed the device eliminating irregular radishes before they would be loaded into the container on the harvester. This eliminating device utilizes photoelectronic sensors and distance measuring sensors. Those sensors detect irregular radishes and the radishes are eliminated in the field before loaded into the container by this device.
