We briefly review the birth of the Progress of Theoretical Physics (PTP) and its relationship with Journal of the Physical Society of Japan (JPSJ). We also trace the development of PTP and the route to rebirth as Progress of Theoretical and Experimental Physics (PTEP). Furthermore, we introduce some milestone papers of PTP in both fields of particle physics and condensed matter physics.
