As we approach the latter half of the twentieth century, many social problems have arisen on a sale that affects our world, especially in American society. There is vague anxiety everywhere in modern life, especially in family relationships. Presented here are results obtained from a survey of American university students on actual conditions in the days of 1983, considered in the light of extreme individualism, the base is for the American spirits and ethos. Problems considered include changes in family structure such as the fact that the traditional nuclear family of husband, wife and children is no longer considered to be the basic family structure in the U.S., due to new types of family structure, and such as gay couple families which include adapted children and children are reduced through artificial insemination, which are new beginning to be accepted, and so on. This study highlights aspects that have a bearing on social life in the twenty-first century which are discussed from the viewpoints of clinical social psychology.
