The environmental conditions of the microhabitat of the giant water bug, Lethocerus deyrollei (Hemiptera : Belostomatidae) were studied in ponds and ditches in Tochigi Prefecture in the northern part of the Kanto Plain, Japan, during the its activity period between May and September in 2005. The relationship between the existence of Lethocerus deyrollei and the environmental factors was analyzed. The results showed that the factors affecting on the microhabitat of Lethocerus deyrollei were water temperature, water depth, substrate type and the presence of vegetation cover.
