The earthquake (M7.0) occurred in the Miyagi Pref. offing on May 26, 2003. No serious damage to the people, and Tsunami was not observed. However, damages to buildings and structures were reported as follows; 4 fires, destruction of houses (2 complete, 21 half, and 2,342 partial), electric power disruption in approximately 36,000 households, and liquefaction of soil. Based on our investigation and interviewing, this paper reports the outline of fires occurred in Miyagi pref. due to this earthquake, and, focuses in detail on the fire of a transformer substation.
