Edward Norton's two films, American History X (1998) and Fight Club (1999) , portray his transformation from a sensitive man into a macho man. Both films spectacularly feature his naked body. His muscled bodies seem to be a key to understanding these two films. Masculine body typically represents violence and domination. In these films, as Norton builds up his muscle, he grows to be a masculine man. But in both films, his masculinity eventually causes a riot, and he comes to realize the defeat of masculinity in the end. Ironically, what two films are implying seems to be the problem of excessive masculinity. Both films are the memorable films in terms of masculine crisis and recovery.
