Aiming to integrate information technology and education, the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology have been promoting respectively the "Future School Promotion Project" since 2010 and the "Learning Innovation Project" since 2011. Elementary schools have started to use electronic blackboards, digital texts, and tablets. In order to reinforce the collaboration between kindergartens and elementary schools and to maintain necessary continuity in learning, it is thought that children using digital media equipment during the last half of the final year of kindergarten would be significant. Therefore, in order to ascertain to what extent kindergartners are using media, a survey of 63 parents of children attending a private kindergarten in Tokyo was conducted. Results showed that about 50% of kindergartners use smart phones and tablets every day. In addition, the parents strongly expect the school library to provide opportunities, activities, and places to learn Information and Communication Technology(ICT). The results suggest that school libraries should provide children in the last half of their final year of kindergarten experiential projects using the latest media.
