これまでの宗教研究では,男性中心的な視点から研究がなされてきたことを反省し,男性中心の宗教における女性信者に注目することの必要性は叫ばれてきたが,女性中心の宗教にかかわる男性信者の研究はほとんどおこなわれてこなかった。その主な理由としては,女性中心の宗教的実践の数が少なかったことが挙げられる。主流の宗教が提供してこなかった事柄を女性に提供してきたため,女性をひきつけてきた新しい宗教的実践であっても,指導者が男性だったり,女性指導者を操る男性がいたりして,必ずしも女性主導型ではなかったのである。1970年代,フェミニストのネオペイガニズムへの接近から生まれた現代の女神運動は,女性が主体となって実践している数少ない宗教的実践である。女神運動の実践者の大半は女性であるが,男性実践者も少数ながら存在している。女神運動における男性の位置づけとしては,1)排除される,2)劣位に置かれる,3)歓迎される,の三つが考えられるが,ニューエイジの聖地として知られる,イギリスのグラストンベリーで1990年代に始まった女神運動は3)にあたる。この女神運動では,男神は排除するが,女神を崇拝する男性は歓迎するという姿勢をとっているため,他の女神運動のグループと比べると,男性の割合が比較的多い。本稿では,グラストンベリーにおける女神運動の創始者のライフストーリーとその主張,およびこの女神運動にかかわりをもった5人の男性実践者のライフストーリーを分析した。その結果,男性がこの女神運動に関心をもった背景には,ネオペイガニズム,イギリスの固有の神的存在,女性の力や性的側面の肯定があったことがわかった。本稿は,欧米の新しい宗教的実践におけるジェンダー研究の一つである。と同時に現代の欧米で盛んになりつつあるもの,日本ではその存在がほとんど知られていない女神運動の詳細についても明らかにすることを目指している。In the area of religious studies, scholars have focused on female believers of male-oriented religions, but they have rarely studied male believers of female-oriented religions. The main reason is that there are few female-oriented religions. While the teaching of new religions is women-friendly, the leadership is often male dominated even though the followers are female. The contemporary Goddess movement first appeared in the 1970 s when feminists adopted the Goddess or witch from the Neopaganism, as a symbol of strong women. The Goddess movement is one of the rare new religions whose leadership and organisers are women in general, while there are some male believers. The Goddess movement in Glastonbury, England started in the 1990's. In this particular Goddess movement, God is rejected, yet male followers are particularly welcome, So there are more male believers in this Goddess movement than in any other. In this paper, I examined the life story and the teaching of the female founder and the life stories of five men who have been involved in this Goddess movement at some point. I discovered that the reasons why those men were interested in this Goddess movement included Neopaganism, English divines. and their positive attitude toward women's power and sexuality.
