新発田藩溝口家が担った延宝9 年(天和元年、1681)と貞享2 年(1685)の二度の高田在番について、その役務の内容を検討するとともに、役務の遂行にあたってどのような文書が作成されたのか、またそれらがどのように管理されていったのかについて、検討した論文である。検討の結果、文書は八つの契機と内容により作成されることが判明した。第一に①在番下命による情報収集、②在番を担当する家臣の選定と、逆に言えば留守を預かる家臣の選定に関する文書、③高田への行軍史料、④高田到着後の担当場所の決定、請取、人員配置関係の史料、⑤在番業務中の必要な文書や絵図、⑥在番の財政関係史料、⑦在番中の諸事留書等、⑧後任大名への引継書類である。This article discussed zaiban of Takada (controlled Takada-han through staying there) which was conducted twice by the Mizoguchi family of Shibata-han in 1681 (9th year of Enpo, simultaneously 1st year of Tenna) and in 1685 (2nd year of Jokyo). The article investigated what their services were, what kinds of documents were created, and how the documents were managed.
