Japanese eat Chimaki, rice-dumpling wrapped in leaves of Chigaya (a species of reed), and Kashiwamochi, the other rice-dumpling covered with leaves of Kashiwa (a tree of oak family), on the day of Tango-no-Sekku, namely May 5th. It is said that Chimaki was introduced from the main land of China. In this paper, the author described the results of historical investigation of the festivals and these two special foods. And the relation betwean the festival and the foods was considered.
