The relationship between the direction of rotation and the leg supporting the body in figure-skating was thought to be based on the cristo-spinal reflex. Skaters stand or jump with the leg of the same side as the rotation when turning around a vertical axis. This suggests that the movement of endolymphatic fluid towards the ampulla of the ipsilateral horizontal semicircular canal as the direction of rotation exerts a facilitatory action on the extensor neurons. On the other hand, they land on the ice with the opposite leg after turning in the air. This can be interpreted as a phenomenon similar to postrotatory nystagmus; that is, the ampullopetal flow takes place in the semicircular canal opposite to the rotation after cessation of turning, resulting in activation of this canal.

外傷性耳小骨連鎖離断は頻回に経験する疾患ではないが連鎖離断状況は症例によって多様であり、臨床像を把握しておくことは重要である。また手術による聴力改善は良好であるため連鎖再建術の良い適応である。1995年から2007 年までに当科で手術加療を施行した外傷性耳小骨連鎖離断症例13例13耳を対象とし、その臨床像ならびに治療成績の検討を行った。伝音再建した全例で聴力改善を得ることができた。外傷後伝音難聴が持続する症例に対し積極的な試験的鼓室開放術を施行することが望ましいと考えた。

Slow eye movement induced by a vestibulo-ocular reflex was enhanced or inhibited in various postures of rabbits. A tonic neck reflex functions to help pursuit eye movement in both active and passive postures.
