On July 28th 1955, while 200 schoolboys and 188 schoolgirls were training in swimming at Nakagawara beach, Tu city, about 76 girls were drowned, and 36 girls of them died.At that place, it is expected that if the seaconditions were normal, the speed of the tidal current would be only 5.0cm/sec or less. On the other hand, the speed of the current which caused the tragic case was estimated at about 15-30cm/sec or more.This abnormal current can be explained as the longshore current, having the speed of 23-32 cm/sec, produced by the swell coming from the Typhoon No. 13.

日本附近の太平洋の表層水温の月平均値とその年変化を求めた。この年変化の輻は北に行く程大きくなる。この水温と黒潮流軸の位置との間には相関はみられなかつた。ただ暑い季節(7月)にはどの点の表面水温もお互いに高い相関をもつようになる。黒潮の流れに沿つて下流の方へ,水温は年を通じて300~500Km程度まで相関がみられる。又各観測点での水温の平均持続日数は90日程度である。室戸岬の気温.と黒潮表面水温には相関がみられる。
