The primary concern of this paper is to clarify the approach of the Syoukouji Temple to the authority of the Tenno and his court. This paper is based on a study on the "Kizokuka" of the Hongwanji Temple that was suggested by TSUJI Zennosuke and WAKITA Haruko. I use two research methods. Firstly, I examin the incident in which the Nishi Hongwanji Temple seized the land of the Syoukouji Temple. Secondly, I consider the economic foundation of the Syoukouji Temple from the perspective of spreading the sect's teachings. This article is for people who are interested in Shin Buddhism and early modern Japanese history The main findings of this paper are as follows. 1. The Syoukouji Temple built up a relationship with Tenno and his court by maintaining a religious relationship with Kujoke and Chitokuin. 2. The sect's believers in Satsuma and Ryukyu supported the "Kizokuka" of the Syoukouji Temple. 3. Belief was orientated towards the Tenno and his court in early modern times.

The primary concern of this paper is to clarify the causes and background of "Nishi Hongwanji Gejo Ikken" in 1690. I use three research methods. Firstly, I examine the relation of the Buketenso (CHIGUSA Arikore and YANAGIHARA Sukekado) and the Giso (KAJUJI Tuneyoshi). Secondly, I consider the position of the Nishi Hongwanji Temple at the Tenno and his court in the early period of the early modern times. Thirdly, I examine meaning of "Tyokusyo". The main findings of this paper are as follows. 1. There was the discord between the Buketenso (CHIGUSA Arikore and YANAGIHARA Sukekado) who gave the Nishi Hongwanji Temple's will to the Tenno and the Giso (KAJUJI Tuneyoshi) who gave the Higashi Hongwanji Temple's one. 2. The position of the Nishi Hongwanji Temple at the Tenno and his court was not high in the early period of the early modern times. 3. "Tyokusyo" symbolized the authority of the Tenno and his court, so the Nishi Hongwanji Temple made use of it to get the authority of the Tenno and his court.

This paper is primarily concerned with those individuals who promoted religious solidarity among burakumin, or discriminated communities, and in the early modern period laid the foundation for Saisei Temple in Takaya village, Taki county, Tanba. My target audience is mainly people interested in the history of the burakumin or Shin Buddhism. The main findings of my research are as follows: 1. The kebozu, or priests, of a burakumin community are little different from those of the general populace. 2. The temples in burakumin communities in Tanba struggled financially. 3. The kebozu played an important political role in early modern Takaya village.
