四季の存在する地域に棲む動物は,季節の変化に応じて行動や生理機能を変えることで環境の変化に適応している.このとき動物たちは日照時間(光周期)を季節の指標としているため,このような性質は光周性と呼ばれる.ウズラやマウスを用いた最近の研究により,脊椎動物における光周性の制御機構が徐々に明らかとなりつつある.本稿では光周性研究の歴史から,我々の研究によって明らかとなった動物が「春」を感じるしくみ,及び光周性制御に重要な光情報を感知している「脳深部光受容器」の発見までを概説し,光情報をもとに引き起こされる動物の巧みな生存戦略を紹介する.

研究活動報告(Research and Activity Report)2009年夏から秋の約5ヶ月間、筆者が代表理事を務めるNPO地域環境デザイン研究所ecotoneと京都市が共催し、コカ・コーラウエスト(株)と(株)ローソンの協力を得て、環境意識の高まりを具体的な実践行動に結びつける飲料販売手法の創出に取り組んだ。具体的には、保有率は高いが使用率の低い「マイボトルやマイカップ、水筒など」へのディスペンサー機器を用いた飲料販売を行った。そこで、ソーシャル・イノベーション研究コースにおける社会実験の中間報告としても位置づけつつ、本稿にまとめたい。"NPO environmental design laboratory ecotone" where the author served as the representative director and Kyoto City co-sponsored for about five months from the summer of 2009 to autumn, the cooperation of the "coca-cola west Ltd." and "Lawson Ltd." was received, and it worked on the creation of the beverage sales technique for tying to a concrete practice action the rise of environment awareness. Concretely, the beverage with a dispenser equipment to "My bottle, My cup, and flask , etc." that the usage rate is low was sold though the ownership ratio was high. Then, I want to bring it together in this text locating it as an interim report of a social experiment in the social innovation research course.
