The authors have proposed Vapor Pressure Deficit (VPD) control methods for a solar-light-type plant factory (greenhouse) with a fog-cooling system. In particular, a proportional feedback controller with a variable gain is adopted in an actual system. In the system, however, there is some dead time—was experimentally confirmed by vision-based observation—which brings vibration to the value of VPD. This paper proposes a VPD control considering the dead time of the fog generation by using a communication disturbance observer with a high pass filter (HPF-CDOB). The stability of the whole control system is verified by the small gain theorem. The effectiveness of the proposed control method was demonstrated via experiments. In the experimental result during the high-temperature phase, the proposed method achieves a 81% reduction of the average error and a 20% reduction of the standard deviation in comparison with the conventional method.

In near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), there is optical pathlength problem. Thus, NIRS measurements cannot be compared between subjects and or regions within a subject. In this study, we propose a separation method for the optical pathlength influence by the variance plot analysis using the variance of the sample mean to NIRS time series signal. As a validation example, we conducted variance plot analysis on auditory selective attention by 10 subjects of normal adult males. As a result, in 8 subjects out of 10 subjects for auditory area on the left side and 7 subjects out of 10 subjects on the right side for auditory area, channels corresponded which are activated concentrating on listening to music.

In this paper, we propose a concept of agile system development which was adapted for the direction of technology evolution. We show the practical use example of a 3D printer and an open source open hardware microcomputer in research education, a class, and an open lecture in National College of Technology, and report on the present situation about education of making things. As a result, it shows that the effect of this concept is high for education at research of the brain functional analysis, research of the environment control and measurement of a plant factory, a class and an open lecture for junior high school students.

This paper shows a construction and operations of high performance computing servers. The servers which introduced in 2013 were funded in a revised national budget. This server system contains computing servers which contain many-core processors, a general purpose server which has very large scale memory, and a high speed file server. They are connected by 1 or 10 Gbps high speed networks. This server system can provide very effective computational environment, and is very useful for research and education.
