Surveys on the fauna of tabanid flies in Okushiri Island, Hokkaido, Japan were carried out at 6 localities from June to August in 1986 using CO_2-lured mosquito-net traps. A total of 138 individuals belonging to 2 genera and 6 species were collected. Tabanus nipponicus was the most predominant species accounting for 49.3% (68 indiv.) followed by Chrysops suavis (37.7%, 52 indiv.). Individuals of other species collected were few in number. The largest number of species and individuals were collected in August (5 species, 104 indiv.), with fewer in June (2 species, 17 indiv.) and July (3 species, 17 indiv.). Chrysops japonicus was collected for the first time from Okushiri Island.
