Laser-induced-fluorescence (LIF) is a useful technique to examine structures and conditions of photosystems, and reactions of them to intrinsic and extrinsic environments of leaves. In this investigation, fluorescence spectra were measured using intact leaves of rice plants applied various amounts of nutrients and containing various concentrations of chlorophylls. The spectra were resolved into Gaussian components of fluorescence emitters by curve-fitting method, and the effects of nutrient deficiency on structures of photosystems and self-absorption of fluorescence within leaves were discussed.
