This paper will investigate and clarify the historical and unusual aspects of the Katsura Villa, established by Prince Toshihito-no-Miya of the Keichou and Genna terms of the Edo period. Imperial Prince Toshihito and Empeor Gomizuno shared power in the landscape during the early years of the Edo period, however much emphasis in history is place upon the Emperor Gomizunou and his Salon. My research has lead to a reexamination of the Kanei period and it's culture as both royals had different agendas and characteristic towards society and the management of their Salons. Imperial Prince Toshihito's Salon members were renga poet Satomura family and other middle class members of Imperial society. Their activities differed from that of the other salons of next term, as the Prince wanted to create a spontaneous class of poetics were the members had to construct their poems in the meeting times only. The primary purpose and emphasis was purely based on the construction of poetry. After the Prince's death, Emperor Gomizuno established power and formed his Salon. His Salon towards a more social network of Kyoto's aristocrats the emphasis towards poetry was deemed less important.

This paper aims to clarify the one aspect of Imperial garden culture after Shugakuin Imperial Villa, by taking a general survey of the change of the relation between the life culture of the Princess Shinanomiya and gardens. She spent the majority in the youth by the Gomizunoo's salon, and played many times in Shugakuin Imperial Villa. And, she obtained the detached residence in Shchiiku, and enjoyed a peripheral stroll based on there. Next, she obtained the other detached residence for Sanjo. On the tableside of the building, the lattice was made to see the street. On the backside, the pavilion (ochaya) was made to command scenery. The structure showed the consistency of the popular culture and the Imperial culture. She frequently went out to suburbs, and entered the popular culture in each body in the fall of life. Her living space has escalated from the garden to suburbs while receiving the influence of the change with the times of popularization of the culture. The Imperial cultural salon and the Imperial gardens rose at the beginning of the early modern times in Japan. But the Imperial cultural salon collapsed by the death of the Former Emperor Gomizunoo. In addition, the Imperial garden culture has changed and declined because it received the influence of the change with the popularization of the culture.

As a result of I collected evidence of activity and a member of a salon from a handwriting of the Imperial Prince Toshihito and the inside of a diary class of the same period, and having compared it with “the Imperial Prince Toshihito annuals” that I could judge will of the Imperial Prince Toshihito to be reflected powerfully, the salon did an activity of composing a poem with the subject, and the original character that a renga poet Satomura family was a main member became clear. In addition, it was a member of the royalty, and this salon which the Imperial Prince Toshihito who was an aspect biography person of ancient and modern times instruction sponsored was able to point out the important significance that was existence to take a one axis of classic revival activity in the Imperial Court.
