A large amount of radionuclides were spread by the accident of Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in 2011. The situation of surrounding area of nuclear power plant is momentarily changing. In order to consider for decontamination or volume reduction of radioactive wastes, it is necessary taking into account not only the technical needs but also feelings of inhabitants, reduction of environmental load, reduction of the radiation exposure on workers and efficiency and cost of decontamination work. In this paper, the application possibility of superconducting magnetic separation system for decontamination and volume reduction was discussed compared with other technologies from above multidirectional viewpoint.

In the field of nursing care for the elderly persons, understanding of their somatic sensation such as pain is very important for care workers to provide appropriate care. However, it is not always easy for elderly person with declined verbal function. Therefore, the objective evaluation method of pain intensity without verbal communication is required. In this study, pain evaluation system which can be used in daily life without verbal communication was developed. The system is noninvasive, because the information corresponding to pain intensity is extracted from facial expression. In order to digitalize the facial expression, the images of facial expression were extracted from the web cam on real time, and were analyzed sequentially. Pain stimulation test was carried out for healthy adults by dipping their hand into ice water (cold pressor test). A strong correlation was observed for young adults between pain face factor calculated from the facial expression digitalized by the system and sensory evaluation score of pain, VAS value. It indicates the validity of this system for estimation of pain intensity.

An investigation as to whether or not superconducting high-gradient magnetic separation is capable of reducing the volume of cesium in contaminated soil is reviewed. This unique physical method can selectively remove paramagnetic 2:1-type clay minerals that strongly trap cesium inside the interlaminar site from soil suspensions. However, there are technical issues, such as wide particle size distribution and particle aggregation. To solve these problems, advanced pretreatments of advanced classification and alkaline dispersion treatments were performed, and the radioactivity concentration reduction rate was successfully increased. Based on the results, issues for practical application were discussed.

本研究では「触感重視型材料」の設計の手法を確立することを目的とし,触感と材料の微構造の関係について検討した。皮膚に塗布して用いる製剤においては,皮膚の製剤によるぬれ性が触感に大きな影響を及ぼしていることが明らかになった。製剤の皮膚表面におけるレオロジー特性も,皮膚に対するぬれ性により変化することが分かり,皮膚の界面化学的性質が触感に及ぼす影響が明らかになった。また「しっとり感」と「べたつき」のように,統計学的には類似した性質を持にもかかわらず,前者は快,後者は不快をそれぞれ示すような官能評価項目について,物理的な現象の違いを検討し,それぞれの官能値と高い相関を持つパラメータを明らかにした。
