According to rapid increase of photovoltaic (PV) and wind generations in recent power system of Japan, the cases arise that power generation exceeds demand, so PV generations must be curtailed in some area. Hereafter, part of PV and wind generations may be curtailed in other areas too. In Europe and America too, similar surplus electricity are genetated and capacity of battery to withdraw surplus electricity are researched. This paper analyzes basic supplying characteristics of PV and wind generations in the simplified model system based on the actual power system in north-east area in Japan. As a result, when penetration ratio of PV or wind generation exceed 10~20%, surplus energy arise. It needs much capacity of battery to withdraw surplus energy, so supplying cost including battery is several ten times of cost of generation alone. If minimum output of stable generations except PV and wind generations could be lowered, surplus energy, capacity of battery and supplying cost will lower remarkably. But unit supplying cost of stable generations increases. According to introduction of much PV and wind generations, more coordination of power system and PV, wind generations is necessary, i.e. scaling up and cost down of energy storage, extension of power control range of stable generations, demand side management, etc.

山岳地帯などの遠隔地において,ドローンに無線LANのアクセスポイントを設け,遭難者の携帯電話と通信し,それをもとに捜索するシステムの構築。本研究では自律飛行型ドローンに小型コンピュータを搭載し,遭難者のスマートフォン等通信機器と無線LANによる通信を行うことによって捜索する。

It is difficult to assess how transient stability of trunk transmission power systems may be affected by a system fault under the conditions created by the widespread use of renewable energy (RE) because it may greatly differ depending on power system conditions such as the operation statuses of generators and RE, and also on whether or not any RE is tripped after the fault, for example. Then we developed photovoltaics (PV) generation model for transient stability analysis and defined a scenario for the widespread use of RE in order to perform an analysis using this power system model. We confirmed that this made it easy to identify the impacts on transient stability and their causes even when different power system conditions contribute in a complex manner.

On July 23, 1987, a very hot day, the largest wide-area power outage occurred in Kanto-Area, Japan. The cause was a voltage collapse on the bulk power network of Tokyo Electric Power Company, due to the abnormal rate of demand rising following resume after lunch break. Aggressive studies on voltage collapse throughout industry and university have led to great advances in power system stability. This essay describes the detail record of the outage, the applied countermeasures, and the inside story when the multiple voltage solutions of power flow on actual power system were found out for the first time.

Recently, research activities on the fields of the power system frequency controls are increasing, especially in connection with the deregulation of power systems. The main contribution to the generation controls required for the frequency controls comes from the thermal power plants with steam boilers. This article presents the fundamental features of MW response of the thermal power plants to be considered in dynamic simulations of the frequency controls, after reviewing the basis of the frequency controls in normal conditions of power systems. The features of the MW response are described in the aspects EDC operation, LFC operation and governor speed-droop operation.

EIE-core type variable inductor is the equipment of variable inductance, which is controlled by dc current. This device controls the cancellation effect of AC magnetic flux. Accordingly, the device always keeps the flux density on the magnetic path within a saturation flux density on control-mode. And, the device cancels a high harmonic distortion, does not need the gaps, which reduce a distortion. Therefore, the device is simply structured, and is easily to scale up. This paper describes a basic structure, basic characteristics (exciting, distortion, ...etc.), and examples of application for the electric power equipment.

A present-day power system is operated with high reliability, and it is rare that a blackout extends all over the system. However, considering its influence upon the society, it is prudent to prepare plans for restoring the system swiftly and securely. This paper deals with automatic power supply to loads after a complete blackout of the system. First, taking characteristics of generators, loads, and initial power sources into account, we propose a method of allocating several generators to each load, paralleling them to the system and supplying power to the load in sequence. Secondly, in order to remove imbalance between supply and demand of power, we propose a method of adjusting the amount of supply and generation according to a present imbalance and the sum of past ones. Thirdly, in order to automatically issue orders for start-up, parallel, follow-up, stand-by, and stop of generators, we set several rules for each power station, and make an expert system based on them. Lastly, we apply the expert system to a model power system, and verify that it can restore loads without any trouble for a complete blackout occured at any time of a day, and in any restoration pattern.
