援助要請者は,援助要請の際に,自身のコストだけでなく,潜在的援助者のコストにも注目していることが示されているが,援助要請者が何から潜在的援助者のコストを予測するのかについてはあまり検討されていない。そこで,本研究では援助要請者と潜在的援助者の二者間におけるコミュニケーション・パターンに着目し,それが援助要請者の潜在的援助者コスト予測と援助要請意図に与える影響を検討した。大学生の同性友人ペア15組にそれぞれ10分間の日常会話をさせた後,潜在的援助者のコストを予測し,自身の援助要請意図について回答させた。その結果,相補的コミュニケーション(↑↓)と潜在的援助者の憂うつな感情との間に負の相関,相称的・競争的なコミュニケーション(↑↑)と援助要請意図の間には負の関連が示されるなど,日常会話におけるコミュニケーション・パターンと潜在的援助者のコスト予測,援助要請意図との間にいくつか有意な関連が示された。このことから,日常場面におけるコミュニケーションは,援助要請者が潜在的援助者のコストを予測する手がかりのひとつであることが示唆された。

The questionnaire presented a case where a person was troubled. Respondents were required to answer the following questions: (a) whether they would seek help; (b) whether the helper would respond to help-seeking; (c) the helper's costs; (d) the negative moods of the helper. Covariance structure analysis of 189 participant responses revealed that help-seeker predictions about the helper's emotions and costs were used to predict the intentions of the helper, which affected the intentions to seek help. We discuss these results with respect to interpersonal cognition in intimate relationships.</p>
