Sternal fractures without external injury are exceedingly rare.A 79-yr-old woman has been troubled with ‘asthma’ which she appeared to be wheezing and having a cough since her mid fifties.A bulging of the center part to the sternum was noted without external injury on arising the morning on January 18, 1989.An X-ray film showed a sternal fracture and blood chemistry results did not indicate a malignant tumor.We suggested that weakness of the sternum by osteoporosis, the transmission of forces to the sternum by compression vertebral fracture and chronic pressure to the thorax with ‘asthma’ were important factors in the onset of a non-traumatic sternal fracture.

Intra-articular pressure (1-A pressure) of the gleno-humeral joint (G-H Joint) was measured in order to elucidate the mechanism of shoulder joint. (Material and Method)Ten normal subjects were measured. Fluidfilled teflon tube, with two small perforations around tip, was inserted into the axillary pouch from anterior aspect of the shoulder joint. The end of tube was connected to a pressure transducer. Intra-articular pressure was measured during movement of the shoulder joint when subjects were sitting position.(Result) When none of saline was injected into the gleno-humeral joint, there was almost no change of intar-articular pressure. But, when 10 ml and 20 ml of saline were injected into G-H joint, I-A pressure rose at shoulder elevation. I-A pressure with 20 ml of saline was higher and rose more steeply at the same elevated position. It was demonstrated that 1-A pressure was highest at full elevation. The relationship of I-A pressure and joint position before and after full elevation demonstrated that the pressures were lower than for the same joint position before full elevation.There were peak pressures at the full internal rotated position and the full externa l rotated position, but latter was higher than the former. The lowest value of I-A pressure was showed at the slightly flexed, abducted and internal rotated position.And further measurements were done in the disease joints.

We examined the shoulder function of the 458 aged (50-80) and 1264 children (6-12) who had no complaint about their shoulders. The purpose of this study is to determine the normal limit of ROM, muscle power and instability for criteria of shoulder functions. Holding the dumbbell in 90° elevation, serial elevation of the shoulder, and ROM were evaluated in each age group. In addition, inferior instability of the shoulders were examined in children. Shoulder function of the aged seemed to be dependent on personality rather than their ages. All the children have had full ROM, but muscle power was influenced by their age. 4.7% of children has inferior instability of the shoulder.

We experienced a case of a 34 year-old man who ruptured his pectoralis major due to bench press exercise. Operation was performed three months after injury resulting in satisfactory functional repair but the patient was not satisfied with the cosmetic. Rupture of the pectoralis major is a rare illness with only about 100 reports found so far. In many of these reports, surgery achieved good results for complete rupture cases.However, there were fewer reports on old cases, but many of those available showed that the operation achieved good functional results, but there were not so many good cosmetic results.

NEDOプロジェクトにより生み出された開発成果をコア技術として活用した製品やプロセスを「NEDOインサイド製品」と定義し、直近の売上、将来の売上見込等の売上効果、雇用創出効果、CO2削減効果等について分析、試算を行ったところ、直近の売上は4.08兆円/2010年、2011~2020年までの将来の売上見込額は69.1兆円と試算された。また、2011年~20年までの雇用創出効果は、10.9~18.5万人/年、CO2削減効果では、5,300万トン/年程度の削減効果があることが明らかとなった。さらに、2000年以降に開発された部材・部品、加工技術の成果が、最近の家電製品、コンピューター、自動車関連製品の中で数多く利用されていることを体系的に示すと共に、社会的便益が大きい事例としてリサイクルシステムの構築に、NEDOプロジェクトが大きく貢献していることを明らかにした。
