This article argues out several problems in negotiating contested memories over war to construct public memory in multicultural Canada. Firstly, it follows the controversy especially between veterans and historians over the exhibit at the new Canadian War Museum on the Allied air-raids in Gemany during the Second World War. Secondly, it describes the efforts to popularize Canadian history in education by historians. Lastly, the argument moves on to military historiography in Canada and the peculiarity in which Canada's wars have been thought to be relevant to Canadian nationalism, which, with a growing number of immigrants, makes it difficult to accommodate polyphonic voices to construct public memory.
