During car frontal crash, crash energy is absorbed by the parts of front bumper, front side member, front panel member and so on. Previous research has indicated that front side member plays major role in energy absorption. For protecting the passengers, the front side member is expected to absorb crash energy as much as possible. In this study, we adopt cylindrical thin-walled structure using origami engineering as front side member instead of structure with box-shaped cross section which is generally used. We develop an optimization system of the cylindrical thin-walled structure using origami engineering, in which the objective function is to maximize the energy absorption of origami structure; the design variables are structural parameter, number of divisional sections along axis, number of edges of polygonal cross section and number of subdivision levels; the mass and initial peak load of optimal structure must be less than those of structure with box-shaped cross section. We then discuss the optimization results that the optimal structure is capable of absorbing energy 91% more than that of original box-shaped cross sectional structure which is usually bended on the way of being crashed, 37% more than that of original structure which is ideally crashed to bottom without bending.

In this study, we proposed a new rotational multi-stable vibration energy harvesting system to harvest vibration energy using elastic spring and piezoelectric element. Theoretical studies such as the equation of dynamic motion of the proposed rotational multi-stable vibration model, the distribution characteristics of elastic potential energy, and the prediction of the periodic excitation frequency by the natural vibration mode measurement experiment will be conducted. Using the developed rotational multi-stable vibration energy harvesting experimental device, we investigated the amplitude increase effect due to the new stochastic resonance phenomenon that occurs in the proposed rotary multi-stable vibration system, and evaluated the performance of the multi-stable vibration energy harvesting.

As an important process for reverse engineering, automatic registration is usually divided in two steps, the coarse one and the fine one. In coarse step, an initial estimate for relative rigid-body transform can be brought to realization by searching some similar geometry, and guessing the corresponding region,. In fine step, highly accurate alignment can be achieved by searching an approximate correspondence repeatedly. For two steps, researching on the first one is more important, because the coarse step will requires more computation time and the accuracy will affect the next step. Various methods such as Genetic algorithms, geometric histogram, graduated assignment, feature matching were submitted or applied. However those methods either need large computing time or only can be used upon the satisfaction of some limited conditions. In this paper, a new method base on CDCP model, including location descriptors, classification descriptors and direction descriptor, was .location descriptors and direction descriptors can provide the necessary information for matching the corresponding points, and classification descriptors can make this process more accurate and efficiency. Experimental results of three 3D images taken by laser scanner are carried out to compare the registration results of proposed method with other twins, and proposed method can be confirmed make the coarse registration process be high speedily without any limited condition.

In recent years, the structures which used origami engineering attract much attention. It can be applied in many fields, such as automobile, building, medical care and so on. In this paper, it is focused on the reversed spiral cylindrical (RSC) origami structure, which is designed by Nojima. This structure is expected to use in side member and beverage containers. An automatic crashworthiness analysis system is developed to generalize different types of RSC origami structures which can transform RSC origami structures from polygon thin wall structures with a group of parameters automatically.

As regard to car frontal crash, previous researches have indicated that the front side member plays a major role in energy absorption. For protecting the passengers, the front side member is expected to absorb crash energy as much as possible. In this study, we investigated the crash characteristics of half cut type side member structure by optimal design method to improve energy absorption ability. We developed an automatic optimal design system, in which the analysis meshes are generated with a group of design parameters and shape optimization is carried out automatically, The design variables are side member cross section shape, spot welding pitch length, divisional section numbers and radius difference along the axial direction, and the number of subdivision levels. As the result, the optimal side member structure with half cut type is capable of absorbing 1.44 times (1.29 times per unit mass) more energy than the original rectangular cross sectional side member structure with half cut type which is generally used.
