In this study, we aimed to investigate the habitat of grassland plants which flower in the spring, compared to the difference of the long-term mowing management of semi-natural grasslands in the Shimousa plateau in the Chiba Prefecture of Japan. In grassland plants which flower in the spring, Ranunculus japonicus and Lathyrus quinquenervius were found in the section mowed 1 time per year according to the May survey. However, the appearance frequency and presence of Potentilla freyniana, Potentilla fragarioides,and Polygonatum odoratum were high in the sections mowed 3~4 times per year. We considered that in Ranunculus japonicus and Lathyrus quinquenervius, their germination and growth are suppressed gradually, their roots decline, and plants will not grow soon. Potentilla freyniana, Potentilla fragarioides,and Polygonatum odoratum have grown under good sunshine with low-medium herbaceous conditions, and have adapted repeating seed dispersal and vegetative propagation in the environment of mowing 3~4 times per year for more than 20 years. Many Luzula capitata and Ixeris dentate were found in the environment that conducted excessive mowing of 10 times or more per year for more than 10 years. These species have developed repeating seed dispersal and vegetative propagation under the environment of intense mowing pressure for a long time, not being suppressed. On the other hand, Pteridium aquilinum, Potentilla fragarioides, Potentilla freyniana, Chaenomeles japonica, and Imperata cylindrica have grown, adapting to the cover of tall herbs. We considered that the appearance of grassland plants which flower in the spring has been affected by the differences of continuous mowing frequency for a long time and the presence or absence of the inhibition of high-stem herbaceous plants by mowing frequency after blooming and fruitage.

This research studied the management situation of different habitats, investigating flora and dividing the grasslands located in Shiroi City, Chiba Prefecture into six habitats (abandoned rice fields, mowed land, sloped, developed land, management -abandoned land, arable and playgrounds). For the species rate of attribute-based classification for each habitat, endangered plants were the most common in mowed land, and were the least common at abandoned rice fields, developed land and arable and playgrounds. Grassland plants were the most common in mowed land, and were the least common in abandoned rice fields. Ruderal plants were over half at 50-60% in all habitats. Exotic plants were the least common in mowed land, and were the most common in developed land. Endangered plants included many species at 17 species for mowed land, and included few species at abandoned rice fields and developed land. In grassland types at each habitat, Miscanthus sinensis and Imperata cylindrical types included many species at mowed land, Zoysia japonica type included many species in arable and playgrounds. With respect to management of each habitat, we found that mowed land and a part of sloped is regularly mowed of about 1-3 times per year, arable and playgrounds are hard mowed over 4 times per year, and in other habitats, although the length of time that has elapsed since abandonment is different, basically, these habitats are abandoned.

This research investigated the change of weeds community by winter-flooded that conducted at shore of Inba Lake, and compared to the different of weeds community in dry-rice-field. As a result, we could confirm empathic difference between winter-flooded rice field and dry-rice-field. In regard to species number per year, winter-flooded rice field intended to be fewer in comparison to dry-rice field. In regard to the plants volume, although winter-flooded rice field were higher than dry-rice field at summer, otherwise dry-rice field were high. In winter-flooded rice field, plant volume of <i>Monochoria vaginalis</i> which was dominant at summer and autumn extremely increased, and in winter, plant volume of <i>Alopecurus aequalis</i> which was dominant species in pre-winter flooded extremely decreased.
