研究ノート(Note)イギリスの奴隷貿易の場合、その決済に際しては為替手形が用いられていた。この為替手形の信頼性向上のため、コミッション・エージェントと呼ばれるロンドン在住の金融業者が引受け(保証)を行っていた。本稿では、奴隷貿易に関する研究を回顧のうえ、奴隷貿易におけるコミッション・エージェントの重要性を指摘するとともに、コミッション・エージェントの研究を進めるに際しての方向性を明らかにする。The purpose of this study is to emphasize the importance of London commission agents as guarantors of slave bills. Bills of exchange were used as a means of settlement in the British slave trade. Commission agents played a key role in this system by accepting slave bills drawn in the West Indies. This financial system made for a more secure and assured means of slave payment than before. This paper presents accumulated studies on British slave trade and also examines the perspective of these researches with regard to the commission agents.
