This paper is a report on Open Space Discussion (OSD) held in Evolutionary Computation Symposium 2021. The purpose of OSD is to share and discuss problems at hand and future research targets related to evolutionary computation. Discussion topics are voluntarily proposed by some of the participants, and other participants freely choose one to join in the discussion. Through free discussions based on the open space technology framework, it is expected that participants will have new research ideas and start some collaborations. This paper gives the concept of OSD and introduces six topics discussed this year. This paper also shows the responses to the questionnaire on OSD for future discussions, collaborations, and related events.

マルチメディア視聴者の情動生理に影響を与える物理特徴量候補を生理計測なしで抽出する方法を提案し,映像メディアから抽出した.マルチメディア視聴者の生理状態を制御しメディア効果を強調するためには,第1段階として,生理反応に影響を与えるであろう物理特徴量を抽出する必要があるが,考えられる限りの物理特徴量を1つずつ生理計測しながら特定することは現実的ではない.そこで,生理反応に直接対応すると思われる緊張_-_弛緩軸と爽快_-_鬱屈軸からなる情動平面を考え,心理評価によって60の映画シーンを情動平面に割り付ける.76個の物理特徴量を考え,これらの特徴量と2軸との相関係数を求め,危険率1%で有意に相関がある場合,生理反応に影響を与える物理特徴量候補として抽出した.このように時間のかかる生理計測なしで,生理反応に影響を与える物理特徴量候補を26+2個特定したので,今後の生理実験で検証していく.

We propose a design method of virtual reality (VR) environment for maximizing VR presence and minimizing VR sickness by controlling angular velocity and visual angle and evaluate this method. The system that materializes the proposed design method has two neural networks. One neural network (NN) learns user's VR sickness characteristics. Another NN learns user's VR presence characteristics. The optimum condition for user is calculated by combining these two NNs. First, we analyze the overall tendency and the individual variation about the VR sickness and presence characteristic of subjects. As a result, it was confirmed that these two characteristics are in the trade-off relationship and that the individual variation is large. Next, we evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed design method. This method had a potential to design VR environment that realize low VR sickness and high VR presence taking account of the difference of user's characteristics. Especially, this method worked effectively for subjects who develop heavy symptom of VR sickness.

Firstly, we propose a spatial planning algorithm inspired by cellar automaton and spatial growth rules for spatial planning support, i.e. generating multiple subspaces and making their layouts. Their features are that there is less restrictions in the shapes, sizes, and positions of the generated subspaces and gap sizes among the subspaces are controllable. We also show the framework of our final spatial planning support system that consists of (1) a spatial layout generator including the mentioned algorithm and rules as main parts and a visualization part generating layout diagrams and (2) an optimization part which main components, i.e. evolutionary multi-objective optimization (EMO) and interactive evolutionary computation, optimize the generated spatial plans. Secondly, we make a concrete architectural room planning support system based on some parts of the said framework and confirm that the EMO makes the generated architectural room plans converge, experimentally. We confirm the performance of the system using two EMO's with four and six objectives, respectively. We also evaluate the effect of introducing a niche technique into the EMO to obtain the variety of architectural room plans. The experiments showed that the convergence of each objective over generations and variety of architectural room plans among individuals of higher scores. This experimental evaluation implies that the combination of our proposed spatial planning algorithms and spatial growth rules is applicable to spatial planning support systems.
