Eight species of the genus Paraleuctra are recognized in Japan, six of them being described as new herein : P. ezoensis from Hokkaido and P. ambulans, P. similis, P. hokurikuensis, P. angulata, and P. concava from Honshu. An apterous and a short-winged species are included. A neotype is designated for Leuctra okamotoa Claassen, 1936 ; this species is now transferred from Rhopalopsole to the present genus and is regarded as a senior subjective synonym of P. gracilis Kawai, 1967. Paraleuctra cercia (Okamoto, 1922) is redescribed and regarded as a senior subjective synonym of both P. forficularis (Okamoto, 1922) and L. higashiyamae Kohno, 1965. Paraleuctra elongata Kawai, 1967 is transferred to Rhopalopsole, and P. nipponica (Okamoto, 1922) and Rhopalopsole gifuensis Kohno, 1965 are transferred to Perlomyia. A key is provided for Asian species of Paraleuctra.

A SrZrO3 thin film with yttrium (Y) concentration of 20 at % (SZYO) was successfully deposited by the pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique. The laser power of PLD affected Y-concentration significantly even though it used the same PLD target. On contrary, the laser reputation frequency and the deposition temperature did not significantly affect the composition. The SZYO film deposited at the optimized conditions was well crystallized and showed no secondary phase and showed (111) and (110) orientations when they were deposited on (111)Pt/SiOx/Si and on (111)Pd/(111)Pt/SiOx/Si substrates, respectively. This SZYO film is expected to use as an electrode of our proposed novel solid oxide fuel cells.

The density functional theory (DFT) was employed to understand the ferroelectric behaviors of wurtzite (WZ)-type aluminum nitride (AlN). To explain the decrease in the coercive field (Ec) due to lattice deformation, the total energy and enthalpy of the strained WZ phase were compared to those of the non-polar (NP) phase, which acted as a transition state during polarity switching. The shrinkage of the c-axis length and elongation of the a-axis length were favorable for reducing Ec. In addition, the calculated residual stress in the transient NP phase was as high as 30 GPa, suggesting that such a high residual stress may be related to the polarity switching behavior under a very high electric field.
