Faculty Learning Communities (FLCs), a type of professional learning community, are attracting attention as a method of promoting reflective educational practice. FLCsare often composed of faculty members who are interested in a particular topic, and inthe North America, methods such as small-group intensive training (institutes),retreats, and cohort formation (fellowship system) have been developed and are beingimplemented as a variety of FLCs. In Japan, Ikeda et al. (2016) have created acommunity of practice, but comparative research and conceptualization of FLCs infaculty development (FD) practice and research is limited in Japan. This paper reportson the design and framework of dialogue-based educational development through FLCformation involving faculty members across multiple disciplines.
