冷泉家の祖藤原為相の母阿仏尼には、鎌倉下向時の十四日間とその後の旅の紀行文、『十六夜日記』が存在する。これは夫為家から一子為相に一度譲予された細川荘相続につき、同嫡男の為氏による相続不履行のための訴訟の旅であった。京を出発して第十二日目には、静岡県興津町あたりに到着し、「こよひはなみのうへといふ所にやとりて、あれたる音左右にめもあはす」(細川家永青文庫本)と記すが、この「なみのうへ」の解釈が地名と見る説と地名と取らない説とに分かれている。本稿では二つの観点からよりたしかな解釈を試みるものである。一つは中世前期女性の社会的地位という観点であり、その根拠には『法曹至要抄』という公家法の注釈書の存在がある。もう一つは文体としての女性日記の役割であり、当時の男性日記とは相違する『主観を書くことで自己の人生問題を世に問うてみる」という観点である。結論としては、「なみのうへ」は地名として記されたのではなく、阿仏尼の「人生の根源的な不安-女性の家・財産の所領という問題-がこめられているとする。

This paper highlights some challenges for improving Japanese students' intercultural communication skills. Acquiring English communication skills has been the target of English education in Japan for the last 20 years. However, some recent statistic studies show that Japanese people's communication and negotiation skills do not meet the demands of globalized world. This peper emphasizes the importance of understading the way Japanese people behave their favored communication style from the perspectives of their cultural values. This paper aims to clarify the characteristics of Japanese patterns of behavior, utilizing Hofstede's Cultural Dimentions Theory, and suggests some important and influential factors for English teachers to consider in teaching communication skills to Japanese students.
