A new species of the subgenus Lutra BRISSON, 1762,of the genus Lutra is described from Shikoku in Japan under the name of L. nippon. It is a primitive species with relatively long tail and long facial portion of cranium among the Eurasian species of the subgenus Lutra.

A new bythograeid crab named Austinograea yunohana is described on the specimens from some hydrothermal vents along volcanic front of the eastern edge of the Philippine Sea Plate, off central Japan, as the ninth of the family Bythograeidae Williams, 1980,and the third of the genus Austinograea Hessler et Martin, 1989. The new species is most closely related to A. alayseae Guinot from the South Pacific, but remarkably different in having the filiform second male pleopod nearly as long as the first.

Three new species of the sawfly genus Rhogogaster, R. shinoharai, R. rishiriana, and R. nishijimai, are described and illustrated, all belonging to the viridis group and all from Hokkaido, Japan. Rhogogaster convergens Malaise, 1931,is recorded from Japan (Honshu) for the first time. A key is given for the Japanese species of the viridis group and collection data are given for R. convergens and R. kudiana Rohwer, 1925.

A new species of red-toothed shrew belonging to the caecutiens-arcticus section of the Sorex minutus group is described from Sado Island, under the name Sorex sadonis, The species is similar to Sorex arcticus KERR, 1792 in having a large skull and massive teeth, but the 2nd lower tooth has a secondary cusp and the lateral pelage is much darker than the ventral. This species is easily distinguished from Sorex shinto shinto THOMAS, 1905 from Honshu, Sorex shinto saevus THOMAS, 1907 from Hokkaido, and Sorex shinto shikokensis ABE, 1967 from Shikoku, Japan, by the much bigger claws of the forefoot and the decidedly darker coloration.

A new species of long-armed scarabaeid beetle belonging to the genus Cheirotonus is described from Okinawa, the largest island of the Ryukyus. It is related to the parryi group distributed to Southeast Asia and China.

Zodariid spiders of the genera Asceua Thorell, 1887, Mallinella Strand, 1906, and Akyttara Jocque, 1987, obtained from Dambri in Lam Dong Province, southern Vietnam, are reported. Four new species are described under the names, Asceua piperata, Mallinella momoina, Mallinella dambrica and Akyttara odorocci. The holotype (female) of Asceua torquata (Simon, 1909) described from Hanoi, northern Vietnam, was re-examined and illustrated for a comparison with the new species. Both the Asceua species closely resemble each other in the shape of epigynum. Mallinella dambrica seems to be related to M. klossi (Hogg, 1922) known from Lang Biang, about 100km apart from Dambri in a northeastern direction, while M. momoina shows peculiar characters in the genus, especially those of the structure of female genitalia. The genus Akyttara was discovered in Asia for the first time.

This is the second part of the report on the galatheidean Crustacea taken by the R/V Soyo-Maru in the deeper parts of the Japanese waters. The collection of the Galatheidae comprises 9 species, two of which are new and five of which are recorded for the first time from the Japanese waters. The reader is referred to the introduction of the previous article (BABA, 1981) for the source of material and the brief notes on the distribution of the Japanese deep-sea Galatheidae as well as the Chirostylidae. I thank Dr. T. OKUTANI and Dr. M. TAKEDA of the National Science Museum, Tokyo, for making this collection available to me; Dr. F. A. CHACE, Jr. of the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D. The pufferfish genus Fugu ABE, 1952,which has long been used by many authors, is a junior subjective synonym of Takifugu ABE, 1949. Higanfugu ABE, 1949 is similarly included in the synonymy of Takifugu ABE, whereas Shippofugu ABE, 1949 is more correctly included in the synonymy of Torquigener WHITLEY, 1930. Comments are also made on the status of the type species of all of the remaining generic and subgeneric categories erected by ABE in 1939,1949,1950,1952 and 1954.

Four new xanthoid genera, Gorgonariana, Lentilumnus, Xlumnus and Serenolumnus are established for the species formerly assigned to Glabropilumnus BALSS. Descriptions and illustrations are given for the five remaining species of Glabropilumnus. The various synonymies are discussed and a key is provided.

The Madagascan freshwater crab genus, Madagapotamon BOTT, 1965,of the family Potamonautidae, is redefined and restricted to only one species, M. humberti BOTT, 1965. A new genus, Skelosophusa, is established for Madagapotamon gollhardi BOTT, 1965,and two new species, Skelosophusa eumeces and S. prolixa, are described. The genus is characterized by the shape of the male abdomen, form of the anterolateral margin and shape of the carapace.

Freshwater crabs of the family Potamidae (sensu NG, 1988) from the Philippines are studied on the basis of collections in the National Science Museum, Tokyo, and the National Museum of the Philippines. Three new genera, Ovitamon, Insulamon and Mindoron, are established, and five new species (O. arcanum, O. tomaculum, Insulamon unicorn, Mindoron pala, Isolapotamon spatha) are described. A key to the Philippine potamid genera is given.

The generic allocation of the Japanese Marsh Warbler Megalurus pryeri is discussed. The genus Megalurus is probably a polyphyletic group. The type species of the genus is M. palustris, which is a different bird from M. pryeri in many respects. We suggest that pryeri be placed in the genus Locustella until its relationships with other sylviine species are better known.

A new species of the hippolytid shrimp genus Lebbeus White, 1847, L. nudirostris, is described from one female specimen collected from the Sagami-Nada Sea, central Japan, at a depth of 250m. A comparison with congeneric species is made. Supplemental information is provided for two recently described species, Lebbeus spongiaris Komai, 2001 and L. tosaensis Hanamura et Abe, 2003, based on the material also from the Sagami-Nada Sea.

A new species of the genus Mogera is described from the Echigo Plain in central Japan under the name of Mogera etigo. It is similar to M. tokudae from Sado Island in such primitive characters as vertebral formula and shape of muzzle pad, but is different from M. tokudae in much larger relative values of body and cranial dimensions, larger manus, and smaller upper and lower second premolars, the last feature of which seems to indicate relatively advanced stage of evolution.

A new species of whiskered bat belonging to the subgenus Selysius is described from the forest on Petegari, Poroshiri and Rakko of the Hidaka Mountains, Hokkaido, under the name Myotis yesoensis. This species is sympatric with Myotis gracilis on these mountains. It is easily distinguished from the latter by the shorter ear, bicolored dorsal fur, and the obtuse anteorbital ridge.

A new species of Rhinolophus from Iriomote Island, Yayeyama Islands, south Ryukyu Islands is diagnosed and described as R. imaizumii, closely related to R. cognatus from the Andaman Islands. The Asiatic species of the R. pusillus group to which it belongs are keyed and briefly discussed, with diagnostic and distributional notes.
