What is important in student counseling is to understand the psychological theme of client. And the attitude of counselor toward the theme of his/her client is also important. For comprehending these theme more deeply, this paper is intended as an exploration into the work of comic, "Mushi-Shi", which is written by Urushibara Yuki. In this work, there are important images that are substantial for understanding the process of psychotherapy. Examples of these images are the ones of "initiation" and "wounded healer" and so on. Firstly, in this paper, the background of "Mushi-Shi" was mentioned. Secondly, Minakata Kumagusu who was a Japanese naturalist was introduced as the model of the main character, Ginko. And then, the process in which Ginko accepts "Mushi", which is grotesque and lively being, and create his attitude toward "Mushi" was discussed. On the story titled "Sugame-no-Uo (which means 'fish blind in one eye')", Yoki, who is the precursor of Ginko, was swallowed by Tokoyami, which is one of Mushi. Yoki was deprived his name and memory by Tokoyami, and called himself Ginko. In this process, there is an image of initiation. Afterwards, on the story titled "Kusa-no-Shitone (which means 'bed of grass')", young Ginko accepted his strange constitution and anguish. The motif of "wounded healer" is especially found in this story. For psychotherapy, it is substantial to comprehend these images. But the most substantial point is not to remain on this comprehension mentioned in this paper, but to go back to original work itself. We are able to experience more fertile image by going back there.

This paper reports on the practices of the student counseling room of a medium-sized private university in a crisis situation where the university community introduced remote classes and restricted campus access to prevent the spread of COVID-19. By providing a hybrid of various counseling methods, including a web conference system (Zoom), this institution was able to continue its college counseling services without interruption. The factors considered for success were accurate information obtained from the crisis management committee, prompt information sharing and decision making within the student counseling room, and dissemination of the activity policy to the university. As a result, the trend of the use of the student counseling room over the past 10 months shows that in the first semester, there were more distance counseling cases than in-person counseling ones, but in the second semester, the ratio was reversed. This indicates that students prefer in-person counseling in situations where they have a choice, and that in-person meeting is important for students' psychological growth. From the perspective of the individuality and diversity of the COVID-19 disaster experience, there should be many more situations in which the findings of the college counseling will be useful in the future.

This paper is a summary of my personal experience gathered in my student counseling activities in the last 40 years. Thinking and looking back, it is interesting to realize how various things are interconnected and deeply interwoven. The roles that are required in these activities and the applicable techniques are never the same. Someone who is in his/her 30's might not be able to play the same role and use the same technique as someone who is in his/her 50's. Although there are certain limitations, as counselors are meeting young students, gathering plenty of stories and updating one's knowledge about the presence and future is essential.

In recent years, the number of students to whom verbal counseling techniques are not effective are increasing. Their subjectivity is not established, and they have difficulties in telling their inner sense or affection. Subjectivity is emerging in way of 'words' connecting with their internal affect. So, for the students who have immature subjectivity, it is supposed to be beneficial to contact them through emotional synchronization, such as the maternal affect attunement. Two typical cases of student counseling are showed to describe how they attain such 'words'. Further, the management of free-space in the student counseling room, some practices of small-sized group program, and some workshop-style subjects in the regular curriculum are considered to be an important factor to nurture 'words' connecting with students' inner sense and affect.
